I created this site as part of my capstone project for the Sweetland Minor in Writing. Throughout my time at the University of Michigan as a musical theatre major, I found myself continually inspired by my peers and classmates, especially by those who were performers of color. I was in awe of the way they used their identities to enrich and inform their artistry. However, by the time I was a senior, I was also incredibly frustrated by the lack of material available for and about performers of color.

To compensate for this lack, I, along with some of my peers, produced The Color Cabaret, a one-night-only event showcasing the 27 students of color in our musical theatre department. I also fundraised to bring guest artist Baayork Lee to our campus as a part of the celebration. This was an amazing, inspirational weekend that showed me the power of diversity in musical theatre.

This capstone project was conceived as a means of continuing the momentum generated during The Color Cabaret and honoring and uplifting artists of color in the musical theatre industry.
